Dates Set for National Drive Electric Week 2015
Dates for the fifth annual National Drive Electric Week have been announced for Saturday, September 12 through Sunday, September 20, 2015. The Sierra Club is partnering with Plug in America and the Electric Auto Association as national organizers teaming up with local groups across the country and abroad to organize events that provide hands-on experience with electric vehicles.
National Drive Electric Week is a grassroots movement to promote electric vehicles. The Sierra Club Foundation views adoption of electric vehicles as one important way to reduce tailpipe and greenhouse gas emissions and move the U.S. beyond oil. The Foundation is the fiscal sponsor of the Sierra Club’s Electric Vehicles Initiative and is providing funding to support the Sierra Club and its chapters in organizing electric vehicle promotion and education events in cities across the country.
“Electric cars are a key part of our country’s clean energy future, and they’re a lot of fun to drive,” said Gina Coplon-Newfield, Director of the Sierra Club’s Electric Vehicles Initiative. “We’re revved up for National Drive Electric Week 2015, which will offer the public, the media, and policymakers a great opportunity to come check out many of the 20-plus plug-in vehicles on the market.”
Spanning two weekends, this year’s National Drive Electric Week will give organizers and consumers plenty of opportunities to plan and attend events. In 2014, 90,000 people participated in 152 National Drive Electric Week events, more than double the attendance in 2013. Drive Electric Week began as National Plug In Day, which was launched in 29 cities in 2011.
