Gearing up for National Drive Electric Week
National Drive Electric Week (NDEW) from Saturday, September 9 to Sunday, September 17 will feature over 250 free events in the United States, Canada, Europe, and several other international locations. Events serve to educate the public about how electric vehicles (EVs) can help us meet our climate goals by moving away from oil and gas and to offer attendees the chance to test drive EVs and connect with other EV owners.
Organized by the Sierra Club with funding from the Sierra Club Foundation in partnership with Plug In America, the Electric Auto Association, and local partner groups, NDEW was founded to accelerate the transition away from dirty gasoline-fueled vehicles to clean plug-in electric vehicles. Even after accounting for indirect emissions associated with charging EVs, these cars are much cleaner than conventional vehicles and are expected to only get cleaner as the United States and countries around the world continue to shift to renewable electricity generation. With many local and state leaders planning to attend, the events also provide an opportunity for people to advocate for smart policies and programs to advance EV adoption.
